JESUS INVITES YOU TO BE LIKE HIM
PK (Y1)
WELCOME TO WEEK 4
It’s our final week of this series! This week we will learn that Jesus welcomes us to follow him! Jesus calls each one of us to be his disciples, to live for him! We will learn what it means to be a follower of Jesus.
BIBLE STORY
Let’s play a game. Let’s pretend we are dinosaurs walking through the forest. Listen to my directions as I lead you through the trail.
1. First, show me your dinosaur claws. Let me hear your dinosaur roars!
2. Next, let’s march around the room like dinosaurs. Raise your feet nice and high.
3. Now stop!
4. We have gotten to a sticky marsh, now walk as though you are walking through mud.
5. Now let’s tiptoe around the room. Walk gently so that no one can hear your large feet stomp!
6. Now freeze!
7. Let’s walk backward because we went too far. Good!
8. Now we need to find a nice hiding place. Let’s run to the other side of the room!
Did you make it? Good job! Was it easy or hard to follow those directions? Were you able to listen and follow right away?
We’ve learned this week that Jesus was unusual, God had something special for Jesus to do. God has something special for each one of us as well. Let’s continue to read to find out what happens next.
Read or listen to Matthew 4:18-23
Where was Jesus walking when he saw the two brothers? (by the Sea of Galilee)
What were the names of the brothers? (Simon called Peter and Andrew)
What were the brothers doing when Jesus came to them? (Fishing)
What did Jesus tell them they would do if they followed him? (Fish for people)
What other two brothers did Jesus see? (James and John)
How did the brothers respond when Jesus called them to follow Him? (They immediately left their boat and father and followed Jesus)
plan for each of our lives. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” God has a plan for your life, He wants us to trust and follow him. Just as the disciples left everything they had to follow him.

BIBLE STORY ACTIVITY
Jesus called the disciples from what they were doing, fishing! Fishing was how they made their money to live. God wanted them to no longer fish but to tell others about Him. He also calls us to follow him.
Do one of the following activities.
ACTIVITY
Using cut-out fish, write ways you can tell others about Jesus. (Parents, you can either write it on the fish cut-outs beforehand or write them with your child). Distribute the fish around the room and have your child gather the fish in their ‘nets’. For a net, you can use a small pillowcase, a handheld tin bucket, or a small basket. Read and discuss what is written on the card as you pick them up.
Materials: Fish cut-outs, Net (homemade net, a bucket, small basket or pillowcase)
ALTERNATIVE:
Draw several fish on your paper by tracing your child’s hand. Ask your child how they would tell others about Jesus and write it on each fish. Here is an example of a handprint fish.
Materials: White sheet of paper, Drawing utensil
CREATE:
Draw a picture of Jesus calling his disciples from their fishing boats to follow him.

FOLLOW-UP
Has God ever called you to follow him?
What things can you do to show others that you follow him?
Obeying our parents is the first step to obeying God, what can you do this week to be sure you obey your parents the first time they ask?
Practical Application at Home
Jesus calls each one of us, no matter our age, to follow him. We can answer the call by accepting his love and gift of salvation. We can simply answer yes!
This week look for ways God is calling you to tell others about him. Here are a few examples:
1. Share a favorite bible story with a sibling or a friend. Tell them why it’s your favorite story and how you see God in the story.
2. Show love and care for someone who is hurt. Being kind to another kid who is hurt on the playground can show them that someone loves them, like Jesus! Ask them if they are ok or if they need help.
3. Be helpful to your parents, teachers, and friends. Volunteer to help them before they ask for help. In this way we are putting others’ needs before our own.
