GODencounters: Upside Down

FEBURARY 7-8, 2025 YGLIFE VOL.6 NO.05

CONFERENCE SCHEDULE

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7

6:00PM — Sunset Supper: Join us in the church lobby to share a meal together to start Sabbath and GODencounters.

7:00PM — Session 1: What If I’m Wrong? [Main Auditorium]
This session will focus on Luke’s purpose in putting together his written gospel account, and how right from chapter 1, we are invited to see things upside-down.

8:00PM — Afterglow & Dessert [Church Lobby]

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 8

8:00AM — Breakfast Bar & Sweet Susy’s Mini Pancakes [Church Lobby]

9:00AM — Session 2: What If I’m Wrong About the Gospel? [Main Auditorium]
In this session Heather will reveal what Luke says is Jesus’s very first healing and what its symbolism should reveal to us about what we could be getting wrong about Christianity itself.

10:00AM — Break [Church Lobby]

10:15AM — Session 3: What if I’m Wrong About Christianity? [Main Auditorium]
In this session Heather will reveal what Luke says is Jesus’s very first healing and what its symbolism should reveal to us about what we could be getting wrong about Christianity itself.

11:15AM — Break [Church Lobby]

11:30AM — Session 4: What if I’m Wrong About Jesus? [Main Auditorium]
In this session we will look at how Jesus’s ministry could be so misunderstood that nearly everyone misses what he was trying to do. Jesus’s own cousin, John the Baptist will ask, “Are you the one? Or should we expect someone else?” (Luke 7:20). Jesus is performing miracles, Jesus is casting out demons, Jesus is expounding on the scriptures, and yet nearly everyone struggles to embrace the upside-down kingdom he keeps ushering in.

12:45PM — REBIRTH-day Reception [Church Lobby]
Join us as we celebrate the baptism of Haven and Ember Doss with baptism birthday cake and Sweet Susy’s ice cream bar.

1:15PM — Afternoon Break
Enjoy the weather and any of the many DFW attractions. Take a good Sabbath nap on the lawn. Enjoy time with family, friends, and newfound acquaintances.

6:00PM — Session 5: What if I’m Wrong About How God Sees Me? [Main Auditorium]
In this closing session, we will walk through the passion of Christ in Luke 23, and the road to Emmaus in Luke 24. Luke is the only gospel writer to include the story of the road to Emmaus, and it reveals to us the danger of what happens when we don’t see the gospel, or Christianity or Christ clearly. Heather will close out GODencounters with an invitation for all who dare to step into the upside-down kingdom of God. A kingdom that Luke, the physician, works so hard to reveal to us.

7:00PM — Supper [Church Lobby]
Let’s enjoy a final meal together after spending the whole Sabbath together. What a delight to enjoy GODencounters with you!

Following supper, if you would like to help us with cleaning up after the conference, we would certainly welcome your joining our all skate!

PRE-ORDER “WHAT IF I’M WRONG?”
Are you tired of living life scared or following the status quo? Heather Thompson Day challenges readers to remember what it felt like to believe in themselves before the world told them who they should be and what they should do.

What If I’m Wrong? explores the chasm between our dreams we once had and the reality in which we are now living. Writing from personal experience, Heather Thompson Day dives deep into what makes us feel overwhelmed or defeated by the hopes we once had, the disappointments we should have overcome, the goals we expected to accomplish, and the person we wanted to be.

Somehow and somewhere along the way, we stopped following our heart and started listening to the lies in our head: It’s time you gave up on that childish dream. What makes you think you could accomplish that? Others see who you really are, so stop trying to be someone else. So we decided to play it safe and just accept our lot in life. And instead of feeling alive every day, we walk through our days numb and uninspired. But this book will help readers see how:

• Pursuing a painless passion means you have an insignificant dream
• Living a “normal” life is scarier than taking risks and embracing the unknown
• Being vulnerable and admitting mistakes can lead to success quicker
• Embracing failure might be the best thing that ever happens to you
• Staying motivated and confident when things go wrong gets easier with practice
• The person God made you to be is waiting to live life to the fullest

Have you ever considered that the hardest things in life might be our greatest areas of passion, through which we find fulfillment in everything we do, from work to play to relationships to our faith? Fears and failures come upon us like relentless waves, pulling us to deeper water. Panicked, we believe we are going to drown. But what if we’re wrong? Maybe God is teaching us how to swim stronger, to pursue greater adventures, to learn how to really live!

VOLUNTEERS WANTED FOR RESURECTION STORY
I hope and pray you are having a wonderful start to the New Year. I wanted to take a moment and let you know about an opportunity coming up at Keene Church that we would love for @ygchurch to be a part of.

After a 6 year hiatus, this April we are proudly presenting Resurrection Story: Hope Rises, a live-action, walk-through experience of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. You may remember its predecessor the Resurrection Pageant which we produced for 15 years prior to the pandemic. Showings will take place on Sabbath April 19 and Sunday April 20. In this new iteration, we have refreshed the script intending to make the story more personal and immersive, condensed some of the story moving from 2.5 hrs to 1.5 hr walk through, and revamped the footprint of where everything takes place. We are excited to highlight through the story the importance of Sabbath and the importance of the saving work of Jesus and his soon second coming.

On January 25 at 1 pm, we are hosting an informational and planning potluck and meeting in the Keene Church Fellowship Hall (114 S. Fairview, Keene). We are looking for any member of the church and community and surrounding churches who is interested in volunteering to attend this meeting and get plugged in where they can be involved. We need over 200 volunteers between cast and crew to pull off this incredible, transformative experience. Roles include acting (speaking and non speaking), food staff, media, costumes, set building, marketplace vendors etc. Click the above icon or scan the QR code if you would like to volunteer.

WE GIVE AS THE WAY WE LIVE
