JUSTIN YANG

Pastor Justin Yang is the Young Adult Ministries Director for the Texas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

Born in Seoul, Korea and raised on United States soil, Justin Yang has served children, youth, campus, young adult, senior and inter-generational ministries in various parts of the world for over 20 years. He started preaching at three years old, got baptized at seven and received the call the ministry at the age of 16.

Yang’s first international mission trip was to San Paulo, Venezuela, with Maranatha Volunteers. He was the youngest student missionary to be sent to India through the 1000 Missionary Movement.

He also served as a chaplain (also a cook and transportation admin) in the Korean army while conscientiously objecting to bearing arms like Desmond Doss.

Yang is a proud graduate of both Sahmyook University, South Korea, and the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan; He is the beaming dad to Enoch and Stella and a grateful husband to Iris who said “Yes!” Together, they have a dream to see all of our local Seventh-day Adventist churches becoming the best place for all generations to grow together.

COMING ATTRACTIONS

foundation // mar 11, sat 1pm lunch, 2pm discussion // revive community care center
foundation is a young adult Bible study. spending time together studying the Word of God on Sabbath afternoons.

This name was inspired by the concept of Christ being our One True Sure Foundation.

“So this is what the Sovereign Lord says:“See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic.” —Isaiah 28:16

”Personally, this concept stands out to me because there are so many things that society tells young people to rely on: appearances, wealth, education, social media, etc. Even within the church, our focus can be on other things, which are important as well, but I believe it’s time we go back to weightier matters. 2 Peter 1:3 says, ‘His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.’ There are so many young adults trying to live a Godly life without the right tools! Many of us think we have to invent our own or use what the world tells us. He has given them all to us. One prominent way He does this is through the Word.” —Dani

MAKE AN IMPACT ON WOMEN’S HEALTH
I am so excited and honored to share that I have been nominated to be a Woman of Impact for the American Heart Association of Tarrant County's Go Red for Women Campaign!  Through this campaign my goal is to support and advocate for the mission of the AHA in building healthier lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke.

We all know someone who has been affected by heart disease. I was shocked to find that heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States – or about 1 in every 3 female deaths. After learning that statistic, I was excited to find a way to positively impact women's health.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference and help raise awareness for women's health. My goal is to raise $50,000 between February 3rd and April 6th. As today is National Wear Red Day, I encourage you to feel inspired to raise awareness and support the fight against heart disease.

Please support me in my efforts to raise awareness and make an impact on women's health: http://www2.heart.org/goto/johnson_penny —Penny Johnson

GRATITUDE

THANKS TO ALL WHO MADE US MAD ABOUT MARRIAGE!
Such great leadership from our church elders in collaboration with our @ygchurch volunteers! Thanks for pouring into the current and future marriages in our church! You all are awesome!

WHEREVER GOD PLANTS YOU BE JESUS, BE YG
Attended the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists’ Youth & Young Adult Ministry Advisories this past week. What a delight to see many @ygchurch members making a difference wherever they are now. Pastor Chelsy Tyler is now at New Hope Church in Fulton, MD doing great things in youth, young adult, and volunteer ministries. Tim Kosaka had the honor of presenting Adventist Young Professionals for the young adult ministry advisory. Got to visit with Pastor Kayla Goodman, coming over from her graduate studies at the SDA Theological Seminary to represent her peers at the advisory. Praise GOD that He continues His mission in our lives beyond the four walls of our church building!

THANKS FOR COMING OUT FOR THE CHILI COOK OFF!
In case you missed it, we had a grand time at the Family Connect Chili Cookoff last weekend! There were fourteen entries to the contest, so our guests and judges had their mouths frequently full and occasionally on fire! Troy Duncan's "Legendary Chili" was a three-peat winner for spiciest chili, as evidenced by the assortment of wooden spoon trophies at his table! Because I wanted to have a journalist moment, I asked Troy how it felt adding another spoon to his shelf of accomplishment, and he told me, "It feels good to know that I'm still the spice king. My goal has always been to win the spiciest chili, so I'm happy." Troy has also won the People's Choice award in past years, though this year's spoon when to Dianna Martinsen!

Other awards were given to Jason Moses' "Sell Your Birthright" chili, named Most Original, and Ethan Summerlin, who was awarded the Best Vegetarian entry for his "Not Chili," named such since it contains ingredients not traditionally associated with competitive chili makin'! My daughter, Donna, and I decided to get in on the game this year, but since we didn't take the time to do much chili research, she grabbed a random recipe off Pinterest...and we proceeded to make our pitch for Best Booth! Our chili turned out to be decent-ish more or less, but our booth topped them all, so we're the new owners of our very own spoon trophy! We may be back next year with better chili, or we may just decide to take our booth decor up another notch...either way, we'll look forward to another great night next time, and we hope all y'all will join us!
